The School Of Marriage.

Married for 2 months, 56 hours and 30 minutes, Mrs Eyram Adopreh, a 26yr old level 200 student Journalist of the Ghana Institute of Journalism is starting to revise her notes on what she used to think about the word "marriage". "

What I used to think about marriage was nothing but fantasies we see in soap operas. To me, marriage is a school and as a young wedded wife I have learnt a lot and still learning. Regardless of one's age, once you enroll in the school of marriage, you should be ready to learn. The marriage certificate issued on the wedding day is a mere symbol of your enrollment. To me ,the actual marriage certificate emanates from what you have learnt and how much you have understood in applying them to make your marriage a success. It is not a smooth ride but with hard work and perseverance, it is achievable just like obtaining a first class degree at the University.

One of the jinx I want to break is the divorce syndrome which has derailed a lot of marriages in this country. It feels so good to fall in love but it takes discipline to stay in love. Falling in love has never been an issue but staying in love leaves a lot to be desired in this country and the world at large. We dress gorgeously to grace beautiful weddings only to wake up the next day and see them in tatters. Then we justify ourselves with the "They weren't meant for each other" cliché.

Staying in love entails a lot, It means appreciating your spouse, accepting and strengthening his/ her weaknesses, remaining faithful and developing a forgiving heart at all times. As a fresh student of this noble institution, I would want my marriage to be an example to my colleagues and most women out there who dream of walking down the aisle one day. I would love to use the rich experience I am learning to counsel young girls one day. It is high time we kept our husbands!
