Dear friends,
After what seemed a disappointment in not being able to get my choice of school for my graduation to the S.H.S level , I cried on my dad to fight tooth and nail in getting me enrolled in my preferred school.Apparently, the school I had was what you would ascribe a two star or worse if you were in my shoes at the time. One thing my dad said that still echoes in my mind today, "Son, wherever you are, you can still shine if you want to, Go and brighten the corner where you are" though those words didn't have an immediate impact on my stubborn mind, after a month in that school, I came running to my father with testimonies and even told him I would still choose my current school if given another chance to pick a school. I realised my light would have been displaced and the story could have been different. Till now, I have no iota of regret for going to that school.
The issue of displaced potentials and dreams is a great matter of concern of which hasn't dawned on many. Often times you see people desperately seeking for big platforms to success when they refuse to realise that platform is right at their doorstep, the very corner they find themselves. We want to be in the limelight overnight forgetting that that musician started in the ghettos, the sought after football began in the nooks of some unknown slum, the renowned entrepreneur started in a kiosk in a suburb that is almost impossible to locate on the map. We are always counting on that bigger offer that keeps disappointing, deceiving and exploiting us when we could start something on our own. Wherever you are, even in the most concealed part of the world, let your light shine, brighten your corner where you are, it is the only place to illuminate the world at large.
Your friend,
Emmanuel Kwesi Gyan
